Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting student progress and outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of individual students and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment.
Provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.
All positions assigned 30 or more hours weekly (typically 6 hours daily) are eligible for a full benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance and paid leave.
Responsibilities Skilled at instructional design founded in the Science of Reading and delivering evidence-based instructional literacy interventions and strategies to address reading and writing challenges associated with dyslexia or related learning difficulties Consult with IEP teams in the development of and implementation of individualized education programs (IEP’s) tailored to each student’s unique needs and learning style Collaborate in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Multip-Tiered System of Supports framework with school administrators, teachers, and support staff Provide training and professional learning opportunities for teachers, staff, and parents on dyslexia awareness, intervention strategies, and best practices in inclusive education Stay current on research and developments in dyslexia and related fields to enhance knowledge and inform intervention strategies Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other relevant professionals to create a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment Design, facilitate, and participate in professional learning opportunities Engage teachers and teams in coaching cycles where appropriate Encourage parental involvement and help provide resources for continued support at home Expertise in adjusting intervention strategies based on ongoing assessment data to ensure continued progress Advocate for the needs of students with dyslexia within the school community and in interactions with parents and external stakeholders • Stay informed about local and national policies related to dyslexia and advocate for policy changes that support inclusive education Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field applicable to special education teaching.
License issued by Iowa BoEE for special education teaching.
Experience working with students with dyslexia and other learning differences at both the elementary and secondary level.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills Ability to adapt and differentiate instruction based on individual needs Certification as a Dyslexia Specialist or relevant certification in special education.
3 years or more teaching experience is preferred but not required.
Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
