The School of Science at Buena Vista University seeks a dynamic teacher in the Agricultural Science program focusing on the animal science track for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
Buena Vista University emphasizes strong teaching skills and preparation of undergraduates for varied futures in the agriculture industry or graduate school.
Teaching expectations are for classes specific to animals in agriculture, including animal science, and upper-level classes in physiology, nutrition, and reproduction, among others.
There is further opportunity to develop elective classes in their area of expertise.
In addition, introductory-level courses for non-majors will be required in support of the general education program.
BVU has an Ag Experiment Station that is used to provide hands-on learning in the Ag Science courses.
For candidates holding a master’s degree, a term position with the possibility of renewal may be considered.
The preferred start date is August 2024.
The Agricultural Science program in the School of Science was developed in 2019 as part of BVU’s initiative to offer new agricultural programs in the region.
The major is grounded in a solid science foundation with advanced courses in animal science that emphasize the anatomy, physiology, genetic improvement, and nutrition of meat production animals.
Internships and field experiences are strong and well-supported components of this program.
Commitment to teaching in a liberal arts-centered environment is essential.
Likewise, service to the university is expected in the form of committee work, continuous professional development, and maintaining pace with the field.

Preferred Qualifications:
A terminal degree, typically D.
in Animal Science or related field with emphasis in animal physiology, animal reproduction, genetics, or animal nutrition.
Understanding or experience in working with multiple animal species.
Teaching experience at the post-secondary/undergraduate level.
Minimum Qualifications:
An M.
S.
degree that includes at least 18 graduate credits in animal science or related area.
Relevant industry experience.
Ability to teach a variety of courses in animal science and agriculture.
Ability to teach, advise, and guide the professional development of students.
Ability to build connections with professionals in the industry.
Interest and ability to contribute to our other major programs, Agronomy, Biology, Biomedical Science, or exercise science.
This position is not eligible for an employer-sponsored visa and all applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
