Summary/Objective
The Public Relations Specialist will create and maintain a positive public voice, identity and image for the organization while collaborating with key stakeholders in the surrounding areas.
Essential Functions
Serves as a liaison between the organization and the public.
Develops and maintains a positive public image for the organization through public-facing communication.
Writes, reviews, and/or distributes press releases and other public-facing communication.
Responds to information requests from media contacts.
Establishes and maintains positive relationships with media outlets, consumers, government employees, and public interest groups.
Has awareness of local events as well as far-reaching business-related events and ensures the company is represented
Helps marketing team tell effective brand stories
Develops strategies to release information on the organization to the public in a manner that will promote a positive image.
Provides high-level administrative support and assistance to the CEO and/or other assigned leadership staff
Receives incoming communication on behalf of senior staff, reviews contents, determines importance and summarizes and/or distributes contents to appropriate staff.
Schedules and attends meetings on behalf of executives for public interest
Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies
Extensive knowledge of public relations principles and strategies.
Excellent public speaking skills.
Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to write in a journalistic style that is customary for external publications.
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with media contacts and outlets.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Develop and maintain supportive relationships with internal Puck departments
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is an exempt position.
Hours of work generally Monday through Friday, 8a – 5p.
Occasional increased hours to meet company needs.
Travel
Local travel can be expected.
Occasional travel out of the area with potential for overnight stays.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in public relations or a related field
Two years of related experience required.
